We are hearing fantastic stories of how many village halls and other community buildings, whilst forced to close for usual activities, are making their venues available for critical support during the COVID-19 crisis. For example, Hilda Blythe from Alnmouth writes:
“Alnmouth is usually buzzing with holiday visitors at this time of year. This popular coastal village attracts huge numbers of people to holiday cottages and pubs alike. But signs at the entrance to the village asking visitors to stay at home were inconceivable only a few weeks ago. The village is now quiet.
“We have been truly thankful for the work of the owners of our two village shops (The Puffin Store and Scott's Deli) who have not only remained open, but provided new lines and deliveries to assist the rapidly ageing population.
“The Hindmarsh Hall, our village hub, is quiet too, with no pilates, dance fit, scouts, meetings, art group, bridge and other regular users. So the trustees decided to offer a newly refurbished storage facility in the hall itself as a base for the Puffin Store to store the growing supply of foods during this unprecedented time. The community is working together with a support network of locals helping and supporting others too. We are truly lucky to live here and look forward to welcoming visitors back in the future.”
Well done Hindmarsh Hall!
